Discussion

This rectangular spit was excavated to define the enclosure ditches on the western central edge of the dry valley. The material removed was a sandy loam (Munsell colour 10YR 4/3) with 10-15% chalk inclusions. No daub or charcoal flecking was noted. Finds which could be related to their specific ditches were lifted under their own numbers (012AD07050 and 012AD07210) . All of the remaining finds (which were in the hillwash which was removed) were later Roman pottery.
